Shucknall Court Travel Plan

Purpose: To promote sustainable and alternative means of transport for staff and visitors and to comply with planning condition requirements and Policies SD1 and MT1 of the Herefordshire Local Plan – Core Strategy and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

1. Introduction

This Travel Plan sets out measures to reduce reliance on private car use and to encourage the use of sustainable transport options for staff, guests and visitors attending the venue for weddings, events and overnight stays.

The plan will be implemented prior to first use of the development and will operate for the lifetime of the venue, with annual monitoring and review.

2. Objectives

  • Minimise single-occupancy vehicle trips

  • Promote shared and sustainable travel

  • Provide clear travel information to all visitors prior to arrival

  • Reduce congestion and environmental impact

  • Support local taxi, coach, rail and active travel options

3. Travel Plan Coordinator

A nominated Travel Plan Coordinator (TPC) will be appointed by the venue operator prior to first use.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and managing the measures in this plan

  • Keeping records of actions taken

  • Liaising with the Local Planning Authority (LPA) when required

  • Undertaking annual reviews and updates

4. Site Context

The venue attracts:

  • Wedding guests

  • Event attendees

  • Overnight accommodation guests

  • Staff and suppliers

Visits are generally pre-booked and time-limited, allowing travel arrangements to be planned in advance.

5. Sustainable Transport Measures

5.1 Pre-Arrival Information

Booking confirmations and event communications will include:

  • Public transport options (nearest rail stations and bus routes)

  • Local taxi company contact details

  • Suggested shared travel wording for invitations

  • Walking and cycling route information from nearby settlements

  • A link to live travel and journey planning tools - https://www.traveline.info/

A dedicated “Getting Here Sustainably” page will be hosted on the venue website.

5.2 Public Transport Integration

  • Guests will be encouraged to travel by rail to the nearest stations.

  • Taxi transfer information from stations to the venue will be provided.

  • Event organisers will be encouraged to include rail-plus-taxi options in invitations.

5.3 Shared Travel

  • Guidance for guests to organise lift-sharing will be provided.

  • Event hosts will be encouraged to coordinate shared minibuses or coaches from agreed pick-up points.

  • Dedicated coach/minibus drop-off and turning space will be provided on site.

5.4 Staff Travel

  • Staff rotas will consider public transport availability.

  • Staff lift-sharing will be encouraged.

  • Secure cycle parking will be provided for staff use.

  • Flexible start/finish times will be considered to match bus/rail timetables where possible.

5.5 Walking and Cycling

  • Safe pedestrian access within the site will be maintained.

  • Secure, covered cycle parking will be installed for staff and visitors.

  • Local walking/cycling maps will be made available on request.

5.6 Electric Vehicles

  • Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points will be installed for guest and staff use.

  • EV use will be promoted in pre-arrival communications.

5.7 Taxis and Low-Emission Transport

  • Partnerships will be sought where possible with local taxi firms operating low-emission or electric vehicles. Blueline Hereford

  • Pre-booked shared taxi options will be promoted for guests arriving by train.

5.8 Supplier and Delivery Management

  • Deliveries will be consolidated where possible.

  • Preferred suppliers will be encouraged where possible to use low-emission vehicles.

  • Delivery times will be managed to avoid peak arrival/departure periods.

6. Event-Specific Measures

For larger events and weddings:

  • Hosts will be encouraged to provide shared transport for guests

  • Coach parking/drop-off arrangements will be agreed in advance

  • Travel guidance text will be offered for use on invitations and event websites

7. Communication and Promotion

Measures will be actively promoted via:

  • Website travel information pages

  • Booking confirmation emails

  • Event planning packs

  • Staff induction materials

  • On-site signage directing to cycle parking and EV chargers

8. Monitoring and Review

8.1 Record Keeping

A written log will be maintained of:

  • Sustainable travel measures implemented

  • Communications issued

  • Infrastructure installed

  • Usage levels of EV chargers and cycle parking (where practical)

  • Any organised shared transport initiatives

8.2 Annual Review

An annual review will:

  • Assess effectiveness of measures

  • Identify new opportunities or improvements

  • Update actions where required

A summary report will be prepared annually and retained on file.

8.3 Availability to Local Planning Authority

All documentation, records and review reports will be made available to the Local Planning Authority upon reasonable request.
